With COVID gaining steam and looking like it was trending towards becoming a global pandemic, I thought to myself “where is a chill place I can wait this out?” And while the proximity certainly had something to do with it, I thought of my time on the Moroccan coast and decided I’d just go there “until it blew over.”

Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?

After a few days of night buses, uncomfortable camel rides, and cold desert tents, I was looking forward to sleeping at a normal time in a normal bed again. Entering Essaouira was like entering a twilight zone – not a single person talked to us as we walked through the markets complete with our backpacks and suitcases. Very pleasant.
